4 Tips For Staging Your Home

Posted on: 15 July 2016

If you are in the process of selling your home, you know you are going to have many potential buyers coming to take a look at the interior of your home. After all, this is the best way for buyers to determine whether or not the home suits their needs. In order to make the interior even more appealing for potential buyers, you will want to consider these four tips for staging it:

  1. Fix Visible Problems: Any visible scrapes or dents in the walls should be repaired. You should also replace any appliances that are damaged to ensure that you are able to get more money for the sale of your home. If there are small, visible problems potential buyers notice right away, they will consider offering significantly less than what you are actually selling your home for because small problems often indicate that there are larger problems with the home.
  2. Get Rid of the Clutter: All the clutter in your home should be packed away or tossed. Not only does this help with the process of moving once your home sells, but it also makes your home feel larger and more appealing to potential buyers. Clutter includes excessive knick-knacks on the shelves, children's toys cluttering the floor or overflowing from the toy box, and even family pictures. Removing personal items like these gives potential buyers a chance to picture themselves and their own things in the home.
  3. Bring in More Lighting: The brighter your home is, the more appealing it will be for potential buyers. The best way to improve the amount of lighting making its way into your home is to remove large window coverings and always have the curtains and blinds open when potential buyers will be coming to your home. Another way is to replace large family photos on the walls with mirrors. This way, you don't have to worry about covering up the holes that the photos have left behind. On top of this, mirrors help to reflect the lighting in the home making it appear brighter and more open.
  4. Become a Minimalist: For the small amount of time you will be staging your home, you should consider a minimalist lifestyle when it comes to decorating and living in your home. This means getting rid of big, clunky furniture that is probably making the home look much smaller than it actually is. If you don't want to replace any furniture, consider getting rid of or storing away as many furnishings around it to open the space.

When you consider these four tips for staging your home, you can be sure that you are more successful in getting your home sold quickly and for the right price.
