This may be three bathrooms, thermal insulation, heated kitchen floors, an expansive deck, a game room, or something else entirely. Make sure that you have already set a budget in place and that you consider these features in correlation with your budget. Also, consider your future. For instance, you intend to have children (or more children) in the future who will need their own bedroom? Will you require an in-law suite when older relatives move in down the road?
Don't Overlook Building Codes and Regulations
To make sure that your project doesn't face any unnecessary delays, make sure that you are up-to-date with local and state building codes and regulations. Do Review the Materials and Layouts
Take the time to consider various materials that can be used for your home such as natural stone, vinyl, and brick siding, in addition to multiple layouts. Do you want an open floor plan or do you want a home layout with clearly defined rooms? As a general rule, open floor plans will allow more natural light into the home, making the space feel larger. Plus, if you like to entertain, open floor plans are ideal.
Don't Be Too Set in Your Ways
Though you should never settle for custom home features or a layout that you do not want, it is important that you be willing to compromise when needed during the planning process. For instance, it may come up that the materials that you wanted are too costly or certain features just don't work well with the layout that you desire. Remain practical and come up with alternative solutions that ensure you stick within your budget and schedule while still ensuring that you get what you want overall.
