Should You Move Into Senior Apartments In Your 60s?

When you're in your 60s, you often start thinking more seriously about the future and what it entails. Part of that consideration may include wondering whether this is a good time to move into a senior apartment. At first, you may think it's too early for this move. But actually, there are some distinct benefits associated with moving into a senior apartment at this stage of life.
You'll meet other people in the same age group.
When you're in your 60s, your kids have usually moved out. Maybe you've recently retired or are thinking of retiring soon. As a result, you may find yourself with fewer people around you, and you may begin feeling more lonely. Moving into senior apartments can be a good way to combat this loneliness and surround yourself with others in your age group. Most apartment communities even offer meet-and-greet sessions and other group activities that provide you with ways of meeting others.
Your apartment will be easier to get around.
You're probably still able to go up and down stairs, reach up into cabinets, and otherwise maneuver around most any home. However, you're probably starting to notice that while these things are possible, they are getting harder. Senior apartments are generally laid out on one floor without stairs, hard-to-reach cabinets, or other challenging obstacles to maneuver. Even if you don't yet need this type of layout in your 60s, having it can make life a lot easier, especially if you suffer some injury that temporarily makes it harder for you to get around.

Senior apartment communities often offer more affordable rent than other apartment communities. Those who own and operate these facilities know that seniors often have somewhat limited budgets, and so they create communities where they can keep rent affordable. Moving in an affordable senior apartment in your 60s may mean you have more money leftover to spend on traveling, seeing your kids, and participating in activities you love. Some communities even lock in your rental rate the year you move in, which means moving in sooner can lead to more affordable rent for the rest of your life.
